The billionaire investor Warren Buffett has given 5,000 Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway stock—worth about $16-million—to an unnamed charitable foundation, a move that may be in addition to the charitable plans Mr. Buffett announced in June, reports the Associated Press.
Mr. Buffett has said he will give the bulk of his fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the four charitable funds established by the Buffett family. It is unclear whether the $16-million went to one of these foundations or another organization.
A recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed that Mr. Buffett had completed the first part of his plan by giving 602,500 shares to the five foundations. But it also showed the contribution to the additional, unnamed fund.
A Berkshire Hathaway spokeswoman said Mr. Buffett was not available to comment. She did say he would “make various gifts of the remaining stock to other charitable organizations” throughout his life.
