Two Charity Bicyclists Killed in Indiana

August 23, 2006

A state trooper and a retired police chief died yesterday, and another cyclist was injured, when they were hit by a van while riding to raise money for families of killed police officers, the Associated Press reports.

A box truck traveling on Indiana Route 63 hit the van, which was the caution vehicle accompanying the cyclists, and the van spun into the riders. No charges were filed, but police are investigating the accident.

Organizers suspended the ride today, which raises money for Indiana Concerns of Police Survivors, a group supporting families of those killed on duty.
