Buffett to Auction Car for Charity

August 22, 2006

Warren Buffett, the billionaire investor and philanthropist, will auction his 2001 Lincoln Town Car on eBay from September 12 to 22, reports Reuters.

The auction will benefit Girls Inc., a charity in New York that serves girls ages 6 to 18 throughout the United States and Canada.

Mr. Buffett’s daughter, Susie, who suggested the auction to her father, sits on the board of Girls Inc. and runs her own foundation. (Read The Chronicle of Philanthropy article on Ms. Buffett’s foundation.)

The winner of the auction, in addition to owning the car, will also receive its license plate, which reads “THRIFTY.”
