Dole Food’s Owner Promotes Healthful Eating
August 3, 2006
David H. Murdock, owner of the Dole Food Company, is mixing business and philanthropy, spending more than $1-billion of his fortune on projects that combine his commercial interests with his desire to promote healthful eating, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Murdock is building a biotechnology complex in North Carolina that he hopes will advance scientific knowledge about the role of food and nutrition in human health. He will also open the California Wellbeing Institute, which will be part resort, part conference center, and part nutrition-counseling school.
