Six charities are suing the federal government, saying they were unfairly denied eligibility to receive donations from federal employees, reports The Washington Post.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and five other nonprofit groups have asked the courts to intervene to prevent their exclusion from the Combined Federal Campaign. According to the Government Accountability Office, an estimated 1.3 million federal employees donate more than $250-million a year to the more than 22,000 groups included in the campaign.
The federal Office of Personnel Management, which runs the campaign, said the charities’ applications were rejected because they did not meet a requirement that participating groups have operated in 15 or more states or in another country during the previous three years. The charities argue that they meet all of the requirements.
