Tsunami Aid Groups Come Under Fire

Aid groups rebuilding Indonesia’s Aceh region after the devastation wrought by the 2004 tsunamis have come under fire for failing to build adequate houses and follow through with other commitments, reports The New York Times.
According to a report released this month by the United Nations, governments, and several international charities, aid organizations in Aceh displayed “arrogance and ignorance” and often employed “incompetent workers” who only stayed for short periods of time.
A few aid groups have acknowledged their shortcomings. Save the Children, for example, said it would demolish 371 poorly constructed houses it had built and would repair 200 others.
