United Nations Offices in Sudan Robbed
June 14, 2006
Four armed men in military uniforms broke into the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ compound in Darfur, Sudan, on Tuesday, shooting a guard in the leg and stealing radio equipment, reports News24.com. The guard was treated at another facility and later released.
Although the area around the compound had previously been secure, the United Nations and other aid groups recently warned that unrest among Sudanese rebels has been hindering humanitarian efforts in the region.
