Leader of American Film Institute Stepping Down
June 9, 2006
Jean Picker Firstenberg has announced she will step down as head of the nonprofit American Film Institute after 25 years, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Ms. Firstenberg has helped transform the organization into a Hollywood landmark and top film school, but she has also faced criticism that the institute does not do enough to preserve film.
The institute has also struggled to raise money amid government cutbacks for the arts, the newspaper says.
