Louisiana Volunteer Camps Closing

June 1, 2006

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will begin tearing down its last four Louisiana camps that have housed and fed 40,000 volunteers who came to the city to help areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, reports the Newhouse News Agency. The organization previously had said it would dismantle camps in April, but extended the deadline when local officials and charities requested more time to accommodate volunteers.
