Fund Raising for Sept. 11 Memorial on Hold
May 9, 2006
Until the costs of the project to build a memorial and museum in Lower Manhattan are determined, the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation has halted its fund-raising efforts, reports The New York Times. The charity—which will build, own, and operate the memorial—has raised $131.4-million.
Early this year an estimate for the project came in at less than $500-million, but an estimate last week by the project’s construction manager put the cost at $672-million, or $973-million when including the costs of new sidewalks and other features surrounding the site, the paper reports.
