Advocates Protest Proposed AmeriCorps Cut
April 20, 2006
Former AmeriCorps participants and advocates are leading a fight against the proposed closure of one of three AmeriCorps programs, the National Civilian Community Corps, reports The Washington Post.
The Bush administration would spend $5-million to close the program, which the Office of Management and Budget deemed “expensive” and “ineffective.” However, the program has many Congressional supporters, most of them Democrats, who have called for reinstating the funds.
