School Turns Down Gates Grant

April 18, 2006

Teachers at a Los Angeles high school voted down a program designed to overhaul the school’s academics that would have been accompanied by a $1.5-million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reports the Los Angeles Times.

While administrators at Carson High School felt the Talent Development program was a good fit, many teachers objected to the program’s specifics and didn’t think their school was performing as poorly as other schools enrolled in the program.
