$2.5-Billlion Committed to Clinton’s Global Project

President Clinton says that at least $2.5-billion has been committed to help the poor around the world through his Clinton Global Initiative, The New York Times reports.

Mr. Clinton estimates that many of the projects would have happened anyway, but that at least half were stimulated by a conference of world leaders he held in September. He said he plans to sponsor the conference annually for the next decade, and to hold people accountable for the pledges of money and effort they make.

He said he hoped to create a sort of eBay of philanthropic committments: “Maybe we can create a massive, floating, and flexible partnership where people who want to give some money and people who want to provide services or programs and people who need economic and social support will be together in an ongoing dialogue.”
