Texas Arts Philanthropist Alfred King Dies
March 28, 2006
Alfred King, an 89-year-old Austin investor and philanthropist, died Saturday of a lung infection, reports the Austin American-Statesman. Mr. King had encouraged arts organizations like the Austin Museum of Art and the Long Center for the Performing Arts to move downtown so that more people could have access to them.
Mr. King and his wife, Ellen, often gave money anonymously or with very little fanfare, according to the newspaper. They are credited with donating millions of dollars through the years to arts and other causes.
