UPDATE: PRINCETON U. GIFT

February 27, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Princeton University has announced a plan to create a scholarship program to encourage more students to pursue careers in foreign service following a legal controversy over a gift the university received to prepare students for such careers, The Wall Street Journal reports. The Scholars in the Nation’s Service program will receive $10-million from the Robertson Foundation, as well as support from other donors. The Robertson family had sued the university in 2002, charging that Princeton had not used a gift from the family for its intended purpose. Bob Durkee, a vice president at the university, said the idea for the program preceded the lawsuit. (A paid subscription is required to view this article).
