HARVARD RESIGNATION

February 22, 2006

Harvard University’s president, Lawrence H. Summers, resigned Tuesday, saying that the “extent of the rancor” with faculty members had prompted him to leave the organization, report The Boston Globe and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Mr. Summers will continue as president until June 30. Derek C. Bok, who was president of the university from 1971 to 1991, will replace him on a temporary basis.
