MUSLIM CHARITY’S ASSETS FROZEN
February 21, 2006
The U.S. government has ordered banks in the United States to freeze the assets of KindHearts, a Muslim charity in Toledo, Ohio, during an investigation into its possible support of terrorist activities, reports The Plain Dealer. The Treasury Department issued a written release on Sunday alleging that KindHearts financially supports the militant group Hamas. Jihad Smaili, a Cleveland lawyer and a KindHearts’ board member, said he was “surprised and disappointed” by the government order and that the group has no ties to Hamas.
