DONATION RETURNED

February 21, 2006

The Red Cross’s San Gabriel Pomona Valley chapter last week returned a $100,000 donation to the City of Pasadena after questions were raised about the truthfulness of the charity’s solicitation of the funds, reports the Daily Bulletin. The Pasadena City Council donated the money to the Red Cross after chapter officials said they needed it to speed help to Hurricane Katrina victims. But Red Cross employees knew that they would be reimbursed for money spent on Katrina victims and did not inform the city of this at the time the donation was requested.
