NONPROFIT GROWTH
February 14, 2006
Nonprofit groups in California’s Silicon Valley expanded the size of their work forces in recent years and received increases in charitable donations, despite tough financial challenges, reports the The San Jose Mercury News. A newly released study, which examined trends from 1994 to 2003, found the number of nonprofit groups and charitable foundations rose by 30 percent in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Employment at nonprofit organizations increased each year since 1998. The growth came even though many Silicon Valley residents experienced financial downturns after the stock market dropped sharply in 2000.
