COMPENSATION AND THE GETTY TRUST

February 13, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

A state investigation of the finances of the J. Paul Getty Trust, in Los Angeles, has turned its attention to severance packages for two staff members reports The New York Times. The state is examining payments to the former director of the Getty Museum, who received $3-million when she left last year, and to the chief of staff to the trust’s president, who received $250,000 when she left. As the state’s inquiry intensified, the trust’s president, Barry Munitz, resigned last week and agreed to pay the Getty Trust $250,000 and take no severance, the Times reports. Mr. Munitz’ chief of staff did not return a call for comment on her severance package; the former museum director declined to comment. Mr. Munitz has defended his actions in previous articles.
