TEXTBOOK CHARITIES

More religious groups are forming to press for changes in the way educational textbooks portray their faiths, reports The Wall Street Journal. Two Hindu organizations and one Jewish group have been established in the past three years to monitor textbooks, joining Islamic advocates who have tracked textbooks since 1990. Their activities have sparked a debate about whether textbook changes would result in a more sensitive depiction of history or a “sugar-coated one,” the paper says.
