MICROBE-STUDY GRANT

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation awarded a $24.5-million grant on Thursday to the University of California at San Diego, to study the genes of the vast number of microbes living in the world’s oceans, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune. The grant will be paid out over the next seven years to the university in partnership with the J. Craig Venter Institute, in Rockville, Md. Mr. Moore was one of the founders of Intel.
