ORCHESTRA LEADER RESIGNS
January 19, 2006
James Glicker, 51, resigned yesterday as the chief executive officer of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra after 18 months on the job, reports The Baltimore Sun. The orchestra recently received international attention for naming Marin Alsop as its next music director, becoming the first major American orchestra to be led by a woman. The board of directors selected board member W. Gar Richlin as an interim replacement for Mr. Glicker, effective January 20. Despite announced increases in ticket sales, the finances of the organization did not improve during Mr. Glicker’s tenure. The orchestra currently faces a deficit of about $12-million.
