$20-MILLION GRANT

January 19, 2006

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is giving an additional $20-million to the University of Washington to establish a Department of Global Health, reports the Puget Sound Business Journal (Seattle). The department will focus on health-care improvement and treating infectious diseases in the developing world, and will be jointly operated by the university’s medical school and school of public health. The $20-million grant follows a $10-million grant contributed by the foundation last summer to start the department.
