DAY-LABORER CENTER

The nonprofit Youth Policy Institute will run a day-laborer center that was approved unanimously by the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday, reports the Los Angeles Times. The center will operate outside a Home Depot. Councilman Tony Cardenas said he was aware of criticism that the center may attract illegal immigrants, but noted the effort to stop laborers from loitering in the parking lot and street as a primary concern.
