CELEBRITY PHILANTHROPY

January 18, 2006

The actor William Shatner, who formerly portrayed Captain Kirk on the television series Star Trek, has sold his kidney stone for $25,000 to benefit Habitat for Humanity, reports the Associated Press. Mr. Shatner said he got the idea when his current television show, Boston Legal, raised $20,000 for the charity. GoldenPalace.com, the online casino, purchased the stone Mr. Shatner passed last fall to add to its collection of oddities, including a grilled-cheese sandwich that allegedly contains the image of the Virgin Mary.
