TSUNAMI RELIEF
January 13, 2006
Organizations in England that responded to the Indian Ocean tsunamis got low marks, in part because they were loosely coordinated and often conducted high-profile relief operations to gain attention from the news media, concludes an internal report by the Disasters and Emergencies Committee, a coalition of British disaster-relief charities, reports The Guardian, in London. The report also said that almost two-thirds of the $620-million donated by the British public for the victims of the disaster has not been spent.
