ATLANTA BOY SCOUTS

January 13, 2006

The United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta announced this week that it will give the local Boy Scouts council $250,000, reports the Associated Press. Six months ago the United Way withheld the donation because the council inflated its number of minority members. The United Way reversed its decision after the scouts introduced a new program designed to increase the number of blacks and Latinos in its ranks by waiving registration fees, providing free uniforms, and offering scholarships for camps.
