GEORGIA NONPROFIT SCANDAL
December 21, 2005
Georgia state auditors this week accused the Georgia Water Planning & Policy Center, which is run by Georgia State University, and the Flint River Regional Water Council of misspending $4-million in government money on exhorbitant travel and entertainment expenses, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The state stopped providing money to the nonprofit groups in July due to the investigation. Roy Bahl, dean of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, played down the charges, saying the auditors only found problems with a small portion of the groups’ spending.
