ST. LOUIS CATHOLIC CHURCH BATTLE
December 21, 2005
A financial battle between parishioners of St. Stanislaus Kostka Polish Roman Catholic Church, in St. Louis, and the city’s archbishop has led to the excommunication of the church’s six-member board, reports The Wall Street Journal. The archbishop has sought to oversee the church’s property and assets, which, unlike most Catholic churches, is controlled by the board. While the St. Louis fight is unusual, a growing number of other parishes are fighting to free themselves from the control of U.S. dioceses, the newspaper says.
