November 25, 2004 | Read Time: 1 minute

Nearly 75 percent of wealthy Americans plan to give the same amount to charity in the next 12 months as they contributed during the previous 12 months, according to a new survey. For the past six years, the semiannual survey has tracked spending and investing habits among the wealthiest 10 percent of Americans.

The survey — conducted in October by the American Affluence Research Center, in Pinecrest, Fla. — was based on responses from 412 people with an average annual household income of $329,000 and an average net worth of $2.7-million.

Forty-two percent of those polled said they felt more financially secure this year compared with the fall of 2001, while 27 percent said they were worse off. In addition, 41 percent of respondents expect business conditions to improve in the year ahead, while 15 percent expect worse conditions.

Fifty-five percent of respondents expect their household income to stay the same in the next year.
