September 4, 2003 | Read Time: 1 minute
Thinking Strategically Within Nonprofits, by Michael S. Dore, offers charities advice on developing a long-term plan. Mr. Dore, president of MSD Resources, a consulting and training company in Austin, Tex., in collaboration with Barry Silverberg, director of the Center for Community-Based and Nonprofit Organizations at Austin Community College, draws from tactics used successfully by for-profit companies to show how charities can improve their results and make their donors and the people who use their services happier. The book sets out a step-by-step process for judging the performance of an organization, developing goals, and forming strategies to meet those goals. Mr. Dore also describes how to evaluate and compete with other groups providing similar services.
