Key Steps in Outcome Management, by Harry Hatry and Linda Lampkin, offers advice on how organizations can use program assessments to improve their services. Harry Hatry, principal research associate and director of the public-management program of the Urban Institute’s Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center, in Washington, and Linda Lampkin, program director of the National Center for Charitable Statistics at the Urban Institute, say that like businesses, charities should develop specific goals for their programs and set criteria by which the success of those programs will be measured. The guide discusses who should be involved in designing program objectives, how to collect and analyze the data, and how to use the information to fine-tune services. This is the first booklet in the Urban Institute’s Series on Outcome Management for Nonprofit Organizations.
