Jones Fund to Split Into Three Units

September 20, 2001 | Read Time: 1 minute

Trustees of the W. Alton Jones Foundation have announced that they are dissolving the foundation and distributing its assets among three new charitable organizations that will be headed by members of the Jones family.

In a letter to its grantees, the foundation said it would honor all of its outstanding commitments. But it gave no indication as to how long it might take to organize the new institutions, or what causes they would support.

The Jones Foundation, established in 1994, has assets of more than $400-million. Last year it made nearly $30-million in grants and contributions, primarily to groups active in promoting a stable environment and a world free of the threat of nuclear war.

The foundation has requested that any inquiries be e-mailed to transitions@wajones.org. Information is also available on the foundation’s Web site at http://www.wajones.org.
