Faith-Based Institutions and High-Risk Youth, by Harold Dean Trulear, is an overview of strategies used by religious organizations that work with youths in poor communities. Mr. Trulear, a vice president at Public/Private Ventures, examined sites in 11 cities where faith-based institutions had a track record of helping youths or were poised to do so. He found that while many organizations had much to learn about obtaining funds and focusing their scant resources, the role of faith in motivating volunteers stood out as a major benefit in helping young people.
