Guide Appraises Web Sites for Fund Raisers

March 9, 2000 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Grantseeker’s Handbook of Essential Internet Sites 1999-2000 Edition
Edited by William Reinhard

The compilers of this guide profile more than 500 Web sites they deem useful to fund raisers.

Sites are grouped in categories listing corporations, foundations and associations, government agencies, research-oriented services, and other resources for grant seekers such as online news summaries and charity-watchdog reports.

Each entry provides an Internet address and a paragraph reviewing the site’s usefulness for conducting research on prospective donors. For the sites of grant makers, the compilers note the types of programs supported.

The handbook includes an essay by David F. Lamb, director of prospect research and tracking at the University of Washington, in which he advises Web users not to waste their time if they can’t find what they’re looking for in cyberspace.

“If you haven’t found anything useful after 20 minutes, you’re probably better off using a different resource,” he writes.
