Three representatives of Refugees International were killed last month while on a mission to assess the humanitarian situation in the Balkans.
David B. McCall and his wife, Penny McCall, both board members of Refugees International, were killed in an automobile accident in Albania. Also killed were Yvette Pierpaoli, the charity’s European representative, and the group’s Albanian driver.
Mr. McCall, a New York advertising executive, had been slated to succeed U.S. envoy Richard Holbrooke as chairman of Refugees International, which serves as an advocate for refugees and other displaced people throughout the world.
The three were being driven from Tirana, the capital of Albania, to the border town of Kukes when their car apparently slid off the narrow, winding road in poor weather. Previously, they had made similar trips to help refugees in Africa and Southeast Asia.
