World Hunger Year, a charity in New York, has put on the Internet a resource guide for groups that work to alleviate hunger and poverty.
The charity’s World-Wide Web site now offers a searchable index of more than 100 non-profit groups that work with the poor. Each organization’s listing includes contact information, a description of the charity’s work, and a list of print, video, and audio resources offered by the group.
The Web site also provides a directory of 100 key books on hunger and poverty in America. It was compiled by James Chapin, chairman of World Hunger Year’s Board of Directors. Selections include When Children Want Children: The Urban Crisis of Teenage Childbearing, by Leon Dash, and Living Hungry in America, by Larry J. Brown.
“There’s a lot of good research being done on hunger and poverty issues, particularly by grassroots groups, and there’s not enough sharing of information,” says C. Carlson, director of oper ations at World Hunger Year.
