Coalition Champions Charity Health Care

October 16, 1997 | Read Time: 1 minute

A group of leaders from non-profit hospitals and other health organizations have formed a coalition to promote their field and to preserve tax-exempt status for non-profit health-care providers.

The creation of the coalition comes at a time when more and more hospitals and other health-care organizations are under pressure from a rapidly changing health-care market to convert or sell to for-profit entities.

At the same time, for-profit health-care companies are coming under more scrutiny amid allegations of fraud and mismanagement. The nation’s largest for-profit hospital chain, Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation, is currently under federal investigation.

The coalition hopes to explain the differences between non-profit and for-profit health care to federal and state legislators.
