Aid to Artisans (Hartford, Conn.): Appointed Jill Hobson Kassis, executive director of the

U.S. headquarters of the King Hussein Foundation International (Washington), to be executive vice president.

Alliance for Justice (Washington): Appointed Susan Hoechstetter, a nonprofit consultant and lobbyist (Washington), to be director of the foundation advocacy initiative, and Vernetta Lenee Walker, an associate at Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor and Reed (Orlando, Fla.), to be foundation advocacy counsel.

American Heart Association (Dallas): Appointed Susan Lund Barnett, vice president of research and scientific publishing, to be executive vice president of science operations, and Mark Alan Schoeberl, chief deputy and executive staff director at the Iowa Department of Public Health (Des Moines), to be vice president of state advocacy and health initiatives.

American Humanics (Kansas City, Mo.): Appointed Kala M. Stroup, Missouri commissioner of higher education, to be president. American Humanics is a national alliance of nonprofits, colleges, and universities that prepares college undergraduates for careers at nonprofit organizations.

CARE (Atlanta): Appointed Ted Jastrzebski, president and chief financial officer at Project HOPE (Millwood, Va.), to be senior vice president for finance and administration, and Richard Prather, senior vice president of product development at Fast-Talk (Atlanta), to be vice president and chief information officer.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (Washington): Appointed George Perkovich, senior associate, to be vice president for studies, effective September 2002. He will succeed Thomas Carothers, who will become director of CEIP’s Democracy and Rule of Law Project.

Center for the Visually Impaired (Atlanta): Appointed DeWayne Martin, work experience coordinator, to be leader of the Career Services Team; Deborah Shimberg, case manager and center-based counselor, to be assistant director of rehabilitation services; and Beth Sutton, an instructor and program coordinator, to be leader of the Independent Living Services Team.

Children’s Partnership (Washington): Appointed Mara Rose, former executive director of Playing to Win (New York), to be manager of online content for the Low-Income and Underserved Americans Initiative, based in Brooklyn, N.Y.

City U. of New York, Hunter College (New York): Announced the retirement of Edward J. Jaworski, director of major gifts, effective July 1.

Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh: Appointed Michael J. Smith, executive director of Goodwill Industries of Fayette County, Pa. (Uniontown), to be president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Robert Foltz, who is retiring after serving as president for 25 years.

Helen Keller Worldwide (New York): Appointed Lynnda Kiess, program director for health and nutrition surveillance, to be director of the health and nutrition department. Helen Keller Worldwide focuses on eradicating preventable blindness.

iMentor (Brooklyn, N.Y.): Appointed Caroline Kim Oh, director of programs, to be executive director. iMentor connects adult mentors to young people from low-income neighborhoods.

International Center in New York: Appointed Aria Edry, development director at American Composers Orchestra and the Town Hall (New York), to be director of development.

Johns Hopkins U., School of Nursing (Baltimore): Appointed Deborah Wells, senior director of development and associate campaign director, to be associate dean for development and alumni relations.

Lutheran Social Services (Milwaukee): Appointed the Rev. David N. Larson, vice president of resource development, to be president and chief executive officer. He succeeds the Rev. Robert Duea, who retired in January.

National Aquarium in Baltimore: Appointed Robert A. Ramin, former vice president of development and marketing at the African Wildlife Foundation (Washington), to be senior director of development.
