California Community Foundation (Los Angeles): Announced the retirement of Jack Shakely, president, effective in January 2004. Commonwealth Fund (New York): James Quigg Newton Jr., former president, died on April 4, in Denver. Mr. Newton, who was 91, served as president of the fund from 1964 to 1975.
