Opinion: Corporate Giving

May 8, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Corporate chief executives should donate a big percentage of their pay increases to charity, writes a corporate-philanthropy expert in USA Today.

Curt Weeden, who previously oversaw corporate giving at Johnson & Johnson and now heads the Association of Corporate Contributions Professionals, in Mount Pleasant, S.C., says corporate CEO’s should step up their giving as a way to quell discontent over steep increases in executive pay.

He urged them to earmark at least 50 percent of their increases in salary, bonuses, and retirements savings to community foundations that serve the cities and towns where their companies have their headquarters.
