Miguel Santana Named CEO of California Community Foundation; 2 Co-CEOs Will Lead Schmidt Futures

California Community Foundation

Miguel Santana will become the $2.3 billion community fund’s president and CEO on October 16. Since 2021, he has been president and CEO of the Weingart Foundation.

Santana will follow Antonia Hernández, who is retiring after 20 years there.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Aimee Daily will become its president and CEO on November 1. Most recently she was senior vice president and chief transformation officer at Memorial Health.

Daily will succeed Teri Nestel, who is retiring after 32 years at the organization.

Schmidt Futures

Elizabeth Young McNally, executive vice president of talent ventures, and Stu Feldman, chief scientist, have been promoted to serve as co-CEOs of this philanthropic organization that makes grants to back science and technology research. It was founded by Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, and his wife, Wendy, who leads the couple’s $2 billion Schmidt Family Foundation.

Elizabeth Young McNally, executive vice president of talent ventures, and Stu Feldman, chief scientist, have been promoted to serve as co-CEOs of Schmidt Futures.

McNally and Feldman replace Eric Braverman, who has led Schmidt Futures since 2017 and is departing to co-found Telescope, a new charitable organization.

David McGhee will be the next CEO of this group that promotes the mental health and well-being of young people of color.

Most recently he was chief strategy and program officer at the Schultz Family Foundation, the family philanthropy of Howard Schultz, the founder and former CEO of Starbucks, and his wife, Sheri Kersch Schultz.


More New CEOs

Crystal Denlinger, senior vice president and chief scientific officer, has been promoted to CEO of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. She replaces Robert Carlson, who is retiring after 10 years at the helm.

Kathleen Jeanette Guillaume-Delemar has been promoted from vice president and director of national partnerships to president and chief operating officer at the Center for Community Progress.

Veronica Herrero, chief of strategy and staff at City Colleges of Chicago, has been promoted to president of the City Colleges of Chicago Foundation. She will also serve as executive vice chancellor, chief institutional advancement officer, and chief of staff at City Colleges of Chicago.

Lisa Key, interim executive director of the Richard H. Driehaus Museum, will stay in the role permanently. She joined the museum earlier this year after serving as deputy director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

Jerome Foundation

The Minnesota grant maker, which has $114 million in assets, has announced five new appointments.

Truc Anh Kieu, program associate at Borealis Philanthropy’s Racial Equity to Accelerate Change Fund, has joined the foundation as a program officer.

Andrea Brown has been promoted from grants and program administrator to finance and operations manager.

Felix Foster, event assistant at the Minnesota Historical Society, has been appointed grants and program administrator.

Melissa Levin has been promoted from program associate to program officer, based in New York.

Kristen Marx, former arts program administrator at the McKnight Foundation, has been hired as a program officer.

Other Notable Appointments

Sylvia Dsouza, senior executive director of development at RAND Corporation, has been hired as vice president of philanthropy at the International Myeloma Foundation.

Kesha Clinkscale has been appointed chief operating officer at the Mat-Su Health Foundation. Most recently she was vice president of culture and wellness at Habersham Medical Center, in Georgia.

Diana Amparo Jiménez, a program associate for the homelessness initiative at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, has been appointed program officer for housing justice at the Weingart Foundation.

Greg Klemm will join Legal Services NYC next month as chief financial officer. Most recently he was chief financial officer and operating officer at the Vera Institute of Justice.

Elizabeth Hutchinson Kruger has been promoted from manager of evaluation and organizational learning to director of evaluation and organizational learning at the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies. In addition, May Thao-Schuck has been hired as director of talent development at the $9.3 billion foundation. Most recently she was vice president of career and professional development at St. Catherine’s University.

James Martin, partner and Midwest client-service director at Counterpart CFO, has been appointed chief financial officer at the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, which has $479 million in assets.

Liz McKoy, an adjunct assistant professor at Hunter College, is now education director at New York Sun Works, a nonprofit group that maintains hydroponic-farming labs in New York schools and teaches urban students about farming.

Tolton Pace, manager of strategic partnerships and grant programs at the Home Depot Foundation, has been appointed senior program officer for Atlanta’s Westside at the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.

Mary Papazian, interim CEO of the Business-Higher Education Forum, has been appointed executive vice president at the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges.

Arabella Pérez has been appointed chief operating officer at Social Current. She was previously vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the National Association of Social Work and a social-work professor at the University of New England.

Renee Rafferty has been named senior vice president of behavioral health at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, in Omaha. Most recently she was senior director of behavioral-health services for Providence Health and Services, in Anchorage.

Luis Torres-Acosta has been named senior vice president of manufacturing, logistics, and engineering and property services at Pride Industries, a nonprofit group that creates job opportunities for people with disabilities. Most recently he was the head of the Latin America life-sciences and health care facilities division at Jones Lang LaSalle.

Departure

Ron Forman will retire as president and CEO of the Audubon Nature Institute at the end of next year. He has worked there since 1973, when he was hired as deputy director of New Orleans’ Audubon Park and Zoological Gardens.

Legacy

Arturo Ybarra, a community organizer in Los Angeles and founder of the Watts Century Latino Organization, died on July 27. He was 79.
