Raikes Has New Racial-Equity Leader; Disney Foundation Names Executive Director

Roy and Patricia Disney Family Foundation
Shawn Escoffery, director of the Strong Local Economies program at the Surdna Foundation, has been named executive director. The Disney family’s foundation had $124 million in assets in 2015, according to the most recent Form 990 available.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Amy Pollack, chief safety officer at Medtronic, has been appointed director of maternal, newborn, and child health. Pollack is also a board-certified doctor in obstetrics, gynecology, and preventive medicine.
Raikes Foundation
Lindsay Hill, a program officer at the Seattle grant maker, has been promoted to director of diversity, equity, and inclusion. In this newly created role, she will oversee efforts to advance racial equity across all of the foundation’s organizational practices and program areas, including education and youth homelessness.
More New CEOs
Sallyann Bergh, a senior associate and data analyst at the Pew Charitable Trusts, has joined Fairfax Futures as its executive director. She succeeds Vera Blore, who has stepped down after eight years.
Stuart Lord, CEO of Delta Developmental, has been named interim president of the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality, a nonprofit religious institute that opened in October to offer doctoral and master’s degrees and continuing-education programs in Boulder, Colo.
Keith Madore, director of institutional advancement and community engagement at Asnuntuck Community College, has been appointed executive director of the Tunxis Community College Foundation.
Jane Oates has become president of WorkingNation, a nonprofit organization that combats structural unemployment through public policy and advocacy. She has been an executive committee member at WorkingNation for the past year, and from 2009 to 2013 she worked for President Obama as assistant secretary in the Department of Labor for Employment and Training.
Other Notable Appointments
Lindsay Coates, president of InterAction, will join BRAC in June as managing director of the Ultra Poor Graduation Initiative.
Gary Laermer has been appointed vice president for development and alumni relations at Pace University. Previously he was senior vice president and chief development officer at the YMCA of Greater New York.
Earl Millett has joined the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation as a program officer, overseeing grants to charities that serve low-income people and older adults, work-force development, and basic human needs and health. Millett most recently served as the chief operating officer of Civic Works, in Baltimore.
Martin O’Gwynn, vice president for community and corporate engagement at Oklahoma City University, has been named vice president for advancement at North Greenville University.
Jaci Thiede, vice president for university advancement at Butler University, has been selected as the new vice president for development and alumni relations at Grinnell College.
Departures
Jerry May, vice president for development at the University of Michigan, will retire at the end of the school year after nearly 30 years. Under his direction, the university’s capital campaign, which began in 2011, has already exceeded its $4 billion goal by $330 million.
Mark Okazaki, executive director of Neighborhood House for 18 years, plans to retire in the fall of 2019.
Legacies
Richard Oldenburg, who was the director of the Museum of Modern Art from 1972 until his retirement in 1995, died April 17. He was 84. During his tenure, he oversaw the New York museum’s campaign to double its gallery space as well as major exhibitions of works by Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso.
