​​Enterprise Community Partners Taps Former Housing Secretary as CEO

Enterprise Community Partners

Shaun Donovan will begin as the housing group’s CEO and president on September 1.

Under President Barack Obama, he served as secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2009 to 2014, and then as director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget until 2017. Most recently, he was a senior fellow at the Ford Foundation.

The Apollo

Michelle Ebanks, CEO of Essence Communications, has been tapped as the New York theater’s CEO and president. She starts her new role in July.

Ebanks will succeed Jonelle Procope, who has led the African American performing-arts center since 2003.

Common Future

Jess Feingold, chief strategy officer, Sandhya Nakhasi, managing director of Community Credit Lab and Common Future investments, and Jennifer Njuguna, chief operating officer, have been promoted to serve as co-CEOs of this organization that works to advance racial equity in economic development.

They will succeed Rodney Foxworth, who is stepping down after six years.

More New CEOs

Michael Crowley has been promoted from chief of staff to president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago. He replaces Mimi LeClair, who is retiring after seven years at the helm.

Carrie Lozano, director of documentary film and artist programs at the Sundance Institute, has been hired as president and CEO of ITVS, a nonprofit affiliate of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that produces documentary films for PBS. She succeeds Sally Jo Fifer, who is departing after 22 years.

Kelli Smith is now president and CEO of the United Methodist Retirement Communities-Porter Hills Foundation, the fundraising arm for Brio Living Services. Most recently she was chief development and engagement officer at the John Ball Zoo.

Katie Theoharides, head of offshore wind operations in the eastern United States at the German energy company RWE, will become president and CEO of the Trustees of Reservations, effective July 10. She previously served as secretary of energy and environmental affairs under Gov. Charlie Baker of Massachusetts from 2019 until 2022.

Pia Wanek, senior vice president for global programs at Global Communities, has been appointed CEO of the DT Institute. She follows Hugh Doyle, who is departing after four years at the international-development organization.

Nonprofit Finance Fund

Jana Reed has joined the $320 million foundation as chief operating officer. Most recently she was chief operating officer at iMentor.

In addition, Beth Doreian has been promoted from vice president of finance to chief financial officer. She has served in the role on an interim basis since October.

Other Notable Appointments

Curtis Hunter is now vice president of marketing and communications at Purpose Built Communities. Most recently he worked at Walt Disney Company as senior marketing manager for the Disney Vacation Club.

Ann Kungu, partnerships and fundraising manager at CFK Africa, has been hired as Africa partnerships portfolio manager at Blood:Water, an international nonprofit group that partners with organizations in Africa to end health disparities on the continent.

Robert Parker Jr. has been named vice president for advancement at Emory and Henry College. Previously he was vice president for college relations at Union College.

Departure

Abigail Erickson-Torres is stepping down after eight years as CEO of Bryan’s House, an organization in Dallas that serves medically fragile children.
