Twitter Table Adds Juice to Charity’s Annual Dinner

June 15, 2010 | Read Time: 1 minute

Looking to add some social-media magic to your charity’s annual fund-raising gala?

Try a “Twitter Table.”

Eric Frazier notes in the new issue of The Chronicle that Thompson Child & Family Focus, a charity that provides educational services and care to families in Charlotte, N.C., raised more than $4,000 at its annual dinner by setting up a table for people who use Twitter.

“People at the Twitter table would be equipped with laptop computers to send out fund-raising tweets, and Thompson could reach thousands of potential donors well beyond the hotel ballroom where the luncheon would be held,” Mr. Frazier writes.

“That’s how ‘Tweeta20,’ a digital-era twist on the fund-raising lunch tradition, was conceived. People at the Twitter table asked their followers for donations of $20 or more. The table raised more than $4,000 for Thompson, which provides clinical and behavioral treatment, developmental education, and care to more than 10,000 children and their families.”
