GE Pledges $50 Million for Education and Health in Mass.

General Electric on Monday pledged $50 million over five years to improve education, career planning, and health in the state, according to The Boston Globe. The move comes as the company is preparing to relocate its headquarters to Boston from Connecticut.

The Boston public school system will get $25 million for programs to help students determine their college or career path. Boston’s Community Health Centers will receive $15 million to pay for career training and improved access to specialty care. Another $10 million will go toward helping “diverse studens” through on-the-job training programs beyond the Boston metropolitan area. The donations will be made through the GE Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm.
