Soup Heiress Gives Another $25-Million to University
May 29, 2007
The University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, has received $25-million from Dorrance H. Hamilton, an heiress to the Campbell’s Soup Company fortune, for its endowment, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer.
This is Ms. Hamilton’s second gift of $25-million to the university; she gave the same amount last November, also to support the endowment.
Ms. Hamilton’s grandfather, John T. Dorrance, was a chemist who invented condensed soup for the Campbell Soup Company. In 2005, she was included on The Chronicle’s list of the 60 donors who gave the most to charity that year. She ranked No. 47.
