President Bush and Vice President Cheney have released information about their contributions to charities last year.
President Bush and the first lady, Laura Bush, gave $77,785 to churches and charities in 2004, more than 11 percent of their taxable income of $672,788.
The White House said that the Bushes made their gifts last year to a variety of nonprofit organizations, including the American Red Cross; AmeriCares; the Combined Federal Campaign, the federal government’s annual charity drive; Evergreen Chapel, where religious services are held at the Camp David presidential retreat; the Salvation Army World Service Office; St. John’s Church, Lafayette Square, an Episcopal parish near the White House; and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The White House did not say how much money the Bushes contributed to specific organizations.
Vice President Cheney and his wife, Lynne Cheney, donated $303,354 to charity last year, nearly 23 percent of their taxable income of $1,328,678.
The Cheneys said that their donations were primarily from Mrs. Cheney’s royalties from Simon & Schuster for three books and from the proceeds of their exercise of stock options.
The Cheneys did not name the charities that received their donations.
