Gifts by Convicted Criminal Roil Catholic Schools

June 7, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Two $1-million donations to Roman Catholic schools by Louis Capano Jr., a property developer who was convicted of helping his brother cover up a murder, have sparked outrage, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Parents, teachers, and board members of Archmere Academy and St. Edmond’s Academy, both in Wilmington, Del., have called for the schools to reject the gifts because of Mr. Capano’s criminal history.

The schools are expected to accept the gifts, however. A fund raiser at Archmere said Mr. Capano wants to use the donation to make amends for his past. (A paid subscription is required to view this article.)
